LearningWorks and Biddeford Housing Authority will offer GED classes and on-the-job construction training to those who have dropped out of school

September 5, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today congratulated LearningWorks and the Biddeford Housing Authority on receiving a $685,000 Department of Labor grant to start a YouthBuild program in Biddeford.

“Those without a high school education have a much harder time getting work and engaging with their community. It’s important to give them another chance to succeed,” said Pingree. “LearningWorks and the Biddeford Housing Authority have formed a terrific partnership to do just that. These students will acquire job skills and earn a GED while giving their neighbors nice places to call home. It will move them and their community forward at the same time—a win-win situation.”

Portland-based LearningWorks will provide the education component while the Biddeford Housing Authority will offer projects on their properties for the students to work on. Organizers expect 20 students in the first year.
