Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said today that Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) headquartered in Portland is getting a $5.35 million Department of Energy grant to finish development of the commercial design of its TidGen Power System. The new design will be tested, operated and monitored in Washington County. This DOE funded project is a critical next step in the eventual deployment of the company's proposed 5MW Maine Tidal Energy Project.

U.S. Senators Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today that the Maine State Housing Authority will be awarded $3,000,000 in Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grant program funding and $400,000 in Healthy Homes Supplemental funding. The Authority will address lead hazards in 230 housing units providing safer homes for low- and very low-income families with children. The Housing Authority will also perform healthy homes interventions in 120 units

U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced his support for the Timber Innovation Act, bipartisan legislation introduced last month by Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) that would support the advancement of the forest products industry by accelerating research and development – and ultimately construction – of wood buildings in the United States.

With the support of U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the Senate today passed the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, bipartisan legislation that funds U.S. Department of Energy programs and critical water infrastructure projects administered by the Army Corps of Engineers.

U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King welcomed the announcement that the Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) and the College of the Atlantic will receive a total of $164,650 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to further their efforts in energy conservation and develop renewable energy systems. The GPCOG will receive $100,000 and the College of the Atlantic will receive $64,650.

The Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Downeast Salmon Federation, Eastport Arts Center, Aroostook Dental Clinic, and Unity Barn Raisers will all receive grants to further their work in Maine communities.

Single-family existing homes in Maine experienced a healthy bump in sales volume and value over the past 12 months. Realtors from across Maine’s 16 counties reported 1,089 sales in March 2016—a 14.63 percent jump from March 2015

U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that $922,876 will be distributed from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) directly to Maine to support conservation and recreation projects in our local communities. The funds, which are generated out of a portion of the lease revenue from offshore oil and gas development, support state-identified and community-supported projects that create jobs, contribute to local economies, and grow outdoor recreational opportunities in virtually every county across the country.

U.S. Congressman Bruce Poliquin toured HBI’s Carpentry Program at the Penobscot Job Corps Center (PJCC) in Maine. As part of the National Association of Home Builders “Bringing Housing Home” effort, Congressman Poliquin visited the facility in Bangor, where he has worked to protect and create jobs, and support educational opportunities for youth. NAHB and HBI are using this opportunity to raise awareness about housing issues.
