Senators Snowe, Collins Announce $149,107 in Grant Funding for Western Maine Housing Workers
October 20, 2008 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has approved a National Emergency Grant (NEG) in the amount of $149,107 to assist workers that were displaced by the closing of three home building companies in Oxford County—Burlington Homes, Eco Building Systems, and Keiser Homes. The funding was awarded to the Maine Department of Labor, which will in turn fund the project through the Central Western Maine Workforce Investment Board.
In a joint statement the Senators said, “This assistance is welcome news and we commend the Department of Labor for approving it. These funds will go a long way towards helping the displaced Oxford County workers during this difficult time.”
NEG funds are provided to states, at the discretion of the Secretary to provide services such as job training and retraining and job placement services to displaced workers.
Approximately 54 workers will benefit from this funding.
