WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 23, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded two Community Development Block Grants totaling $1,853,497 to Cumberland County and the City of Biddeford.

“Investment in low-income housing plays a critical role in helping put a roof over the heads of thousands of people in Maine every year,” said Senators Collins and King. “By expanding housing opportunities and bolstering the facilities and services in emergency shelters, this funding will help our more vulnerable families and individuals to maintain a stable home and focus on a path forward.”

The Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to states and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing housing, suitable living environments, and expanding economic opportunities mainly for people with low and moderate-income.

The total $1,853,497 in funding was awarded as follows:

City of Biddeford: $437,000
Cumberland Country: $1,416,401
