WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King welcomed an announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that it is investing $4.4 million to assist the Boothbay Harbor Sewer District and Vassalboro Sanitary District. Boothbay Harbor will receive a $450,000 Water and Waste Disposal Direct Loan and a $150,000 grant, and Vassalboro will receive a $2,113,000 Water and Waste Disposal Direct Loan and a $1,700,000 grant.

“Water infrastructure helps to set a foundation for the health and safety of communities across Maine,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Investments like these from USDA Rural Development play an important role in that effort, marshaling critical resources for Maine people.”

The Boothbay Harbor Sewer District will use this support for upgrades to its sewer distribution system. The Vassalboro Sanitary District will make an interconnection with the Town of Winslow to facilitate treatment at the Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District’s Regional wastewater treatment facility.

These Maine investments come through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs, and are part of a nationwide announcement of $264 million in loans and $67 million in grants. These programs provide assistance and financing to communities with 10,000 or fewer residents to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems.
