WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced a $3.2 million investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support the work of the Anson and Madison Water District as it replaces a 12 mile long water transmission main in Somerset County. The investment is comprised of a $800,000 grant and a $2.4 million loan.

“Clean and accessible water is essential to the health and safety of our communities,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “Upgrading the transmission main for the Anson and Madison Water District will help ensure a high standard of public health for area residents, and we commend the USDA for supporting this important investment.”

The Anson and Madison Water District system serves approximately 1,600 households and 105 businesses and public facilities in Somerset County. The 12 mile long transmission main carries both raw and treated water and the project will replace approximately 19,000 feet of the main. Under the jurisdiction of the USDA, the Rural Development agency is committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. The Rural Development agency has awarded the funding through its Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program.
