Free Foreclosure Prevention Clinic This Thursday (July 22) in Sanford, Another in Bangor Next Month

Professional & Financial Regulation - Consumer Credit Regulation

July 20, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — The Maine Housing Counseling Network with assistance and support from the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the MaineHousing continues its series of free Foreclosure Prevention Clinics this Thursday afternoon and evening in Sanford. The fourth in this series will be held next month in Bangor. Others taken place this summer in Augusta and Portland.

The clinics are being held to reduce foreclosures and provide educational information about homeowners’ rights and options for avoiding foreclosure. Homeowners will be able to learn about potential alternatives to foreclosure and connect with housing counselors. “As some of our Maine residents struggle to meet increasing mortgage payments and face the possibility of foreclosure, we want to offer whatever resources we have available to help them through their challenges,” said Will Lund, Superintendent of the state’s Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection.

“The clinic will help families learn about options if they are struggling to make house payments or fear that they may lose their home due to foreclosure,” said Chet Randall of Pine Tree Legal Assistance.

Network members will speak on potential alternatives to foreclosure, including a statewide program which provides homeowners the opportunity to sit down face to face with their lender and potentially work out a mutually beneficial agreement. Homeowners who have missed mortgage payments or are concerned about losing their homes to foreclosure or housing fraud are urged to attend these workshops and obtain the free help they need and deserve.

Walk-ins are welcomed. Participants are encouraged to bring loan documents and other relevant financial information to the event. The clinics are scheduled for:

– July 22 at Mousam View Place (formerly Knights of Columbus), 47 High Street, Sanford;

first session begins at 5:30 p.m.; second session begins at 7:30 p.m.

– August 21 at Penquis Community Action, 262 Harlow Street, Bangor;
